Mr. Shanahan left public service, effective March 18, 2009.

A few years ago, Mr. Shanahan left private practice and accepted an appointment by New York State Governor Elliott Spitzer to the position of Deputy Commissioner at the New York State Division of Human Rights. Mr. Shanahan was both proud and honored to have been chosen by the Governor and Division of Human Rights Commissioner Kumiki Gibson to serve in that vitally important role. The opportunity permitted Mr. Shanahan to continue his long-standing commitment to human rights as a public servant, rather than private advocate.
